Abstract

Information design and technology are interrelated topics that have proven to be relevant and urgent areas of research as they are essential to our daily lives. Moreover, advances and trends in technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital learning, digital games, virtual realities and others have changed social and economic structures, posing new ethical and information challenges to researchers and information designers. The aim of this special issue was to bring together contributions that focus primarily on the relationship between information design and technology and also report on emerging issues within this topic. The papers selected for this issue provide research findings that contribute to reflection and opportunities for improvement in these challenging and thought-provoking research areas.

Author Biographies

Virgínia Tiradentes Souto, University of Brasilia

Dr Virgínia Tiradentes Souto is a Professor in the Department of Design at the Institute of Art, University of Brasília - UnB, Brazil. She holds a PhD (2006) and a Masters (1998) in Typography and Graphic Communication from the University of Reading, UK, and a postdoctoral degree from the Graduate Programme in Knowledge Management Engineering (PPG EGC)-Federal University of Santa Catarina -UFSC. She is also a member of the Graduate Programme in Design (PPG Design) and advisor of the Graduate Programme in Visual Arts (PPGAV), both at UnB. She is associate editor of the journal InfoDesign (since 2018) - having been managing editor (2021-2022) -, head of the Information Design Research Group at UnB (since 2008) and coordinator of the Interface Design Laboratory (since 2009), as well as a reviewer for several journals.She has been the coordinator of the PPG Design - UnB (2013-2017), a member of the PPGAV - UnB (2011-2022), Editor-in-Chief of the journal Revista de Design, Tecnologia e Sociedade(2013-2019), Undergraduate Coordinator of the Design - UnB programme (2007-2009), Deputy Head (2009-2011) and Head (2019-2021) of the Department of Design - UnB. She is currently coordinating the research project 'Infographics as a tool for the communication and promotion of public measures aimed at women', which is funded by the Foundation for Research Promotion of the Federal District Government (FAP-DF), among others. Her main interests are: Creativity and Innovation in Design, Information Design and Digital Media Design, and Gender Differences in Design.

Letícia Pedruzzi Fonseca, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo

Dra. Letícia Pedruzzi Fonseca é professora associada no curso de Design da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo. É doutora (2012) e mestre (2008) em Design pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro e bacharel em Desenho Industrial - Programação Visual (2005) pela Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo. Coordena o Laboratório de Design: História e Tipografia - LadHT, que possui atividades de pesquisa e extensão relacionadas à Memória Gráfica Brasileira (ladht.ufes.br). É pesquisadora do Laboratório de Tecnologias de Apoio a Redes de Inovação - LabTAR, que é um ambiente multidisciplinar com a missão de gerar e difundir conhecimentos e tecnologias que promovam a inovação baseada na cocriação com os usuários (labtar.ufes.br). É editora associada da revista InfoDesign (desde 2018) tendo sido editora-gerente (2022-2023). Participa dos Grupos de Pesquisa, cadastrados no CNPq: "Imprensa e circulação de ideias: o papel dos periódicos nos séculos XIX e XX" e "Memoráveis: Manifestações Gráficas Afetivas". É autora do livro “Uma revolução gráfica: Julião Machado e as revistas ilustradas no Brasil, 1895-1898” (Blucher, 2016), organizadora da obra “Produção e publicação de revistas capixabas: inventário dos acervos públicos da região metropolitana de Vitória, 1912-2019” (Edufes, 2022), e co-autora dos livros: "Revistas Capixabas: 50 anos de história“ (PRPPG-Ufes, 2023) e “Investigação de iniciativas de ensino de inovação e empreendedorismo. Uma abordagem a partir de experiências brasileiras e catalãs” (Proex, 2023). Suas principais áreas de interesse são criatividade e inovação em design, design da informação, história do design e memória gráfica.
